In addition, a Special Session on Navigation and Understanding of Big Linked Data will be held within the context of SMAP 2018. If you are submitting a paper to this special session, please indicate so through EasyChair or notify the organizers.
Overview of the special session
Today, we are assisting at a staggering growth in the production and consumption of Linked Open Data (LOD) and in the generation of increasingly large datasets. In this scenario, it is crucial to provide special tools for researchers, domain experts, but also businessmen and citizens to understand and interact with LOD resources. In this special session, emphasis is drawn on the way data linked datasets might be selected by looking among the diverse open data portals, explored in order to understand their contents and queried to extract meaningful information for the user. Special emphasis is put on facilitating personalized knowledge extraction and in creating effective data visualizations.
Topics for the special session
- Using Linked Data for personalized services
- Dynamic profiling of Linked Data sources
- Adaptive and personalized Linked Data exploration
- Semantic annotation and information visualization
- Personalization and adaptation issues for Big, Open and Linked Data
- Linked Data widgets and dashboards
- Linked Data and social media applications
- Data journalism, analytics and visualizations based on Linked Data
- Personalized search and exploration on the Web of Data
- User modelling in Linked Data consumption
- Statistical analysis, statistical learning and data mining for Big Linked Data
- Open government, transparency, advantages for citizens
- Big and open Linked Data to create smart cities
- Environmental and agricultural data
- Health data and intelligent systems
- Active and healthy ageing data analytics
Session Organizers
- Laura Po, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy
- Charalampos Bratsas, Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece
Each submitted paper will be refereed by at least three members of the SMAP 2018 Program Committee, based on its relevance, originality, significance, technical soundness and clarity of expression. Submissions must be in English, and can present mature research or experimental results as well as promising work in progress. Papers must be formatted according to the IEEE 2-column conference article style, with a limit of 6 pages, including all figures, tables and references. A minimum paper length of 4 pages is also imposed.
As with all previous editions of SMAP, all accepted papers are planned to be published by IEEE in IEEE Xplore. SMAP 2018 is supported by IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (technical co-sponsorship).
For your convenience, you may use the LaTeX or MSWord templates. Papers can be submitted via EasyChair in PDF format.
Paper Formatting
Please, remember that papers must be formatted according to the IEEE 2-column conference article style, with a limit of 6 pages, including all figures, tables and references. A minimum paper length of 4 pages is also imposed. Word and LaTeX templates as well as PDF instructions are available here.
Do not add any page numbering, header or footer (other than the copyright info).
In preparing the camera ready version of your paper please make sure to take under consideration and address any and all comments by the reviewers.
Copyright Notice

IEEE Xplore Compatibility
In order to ensure compatibility with IEEE Xplore, camera-ready papers need to be verified by the PDF eXpress system, using 44200XP as the Conference ID. Strict compliance is required for inclusion in IEEE Xplore, so please ensure that all the criteria are satisfied. It is so essential that you use the IEEE PDF eXpress Plus site to validate your papers.
Detailed instructions regarding the IEEE Xplore compatibility are available here.
Final Submission
Once you have completed all the above, please send a unique email to smap2018@unizar.es (please use in the title "Final submission files for paper {your submission_ID}") containing:
- The PDF camera-ready that includes the copyright notice in the footer and has been verified by PDF eXpress.
- A zip/rar file with the sources of the final version of the paper.
All submissions will be confirmed. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours please contact us again, as some communication error may occur. Please note that we need to receive your files by the camera ready deadline established, satisfying all the requirements, in order to meet the proceedings production deadlines.
Please, remember also the submission of the IEEE copyright form and your registration.
